Three Rivers Art Glass

Luna Moth All Day Workshop (wire work emphasis)

Instructor: Jen

Saturday March 21 10am-4pm (with a break for lunch)

Pre- Requisites-

This workshop is considered an Intermediate/Advanced workshop. Students must have taken at least 3 suncatcher workshops at Three Rivers Art Glass in the last year or be given explicit permission by Brian to participate in this workshop. Students must be comfortable working independently to place patterns, cut glass, grind, foil and solder a basic stained glass suncatcher. Students will work independently during class time to assemble the initial shape of the moth

Create a whimsical luna moth stained glass suncatcher featuring intricate wire detailing to emphasize the wings of the moth. This simple glass design will be created using wire working technique instead of using small, hard to manage pieces.

In this guided all day workshop, students will learn to add hobby came to a piece and utilize wire to add intricate detail and structure to a finished piece. At the end of this course students should feel comfortable with wire work and leave with an understanding of basic techniques for attaching wire to their pieces.

The morning session will include independently assembling the basic Luna Moth shape by cutting glass, grinding, foiling and soldering the moth together. Once moths are assembled, instruction and group demonstration for how to frame your work in Hobby Came will be provided. .

The afternoon session will include instruction and demonstration of how to manipulate wire to create shapes, information about using wire for both decoration and structure, and techniques for attaching wire to your piece. Once the piece is finished, we will discuss patina, the reason for using it (according to Jen) and its application. Then you will be given instructions on how to polish your piece so it is ready to show off!

All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with a completed Luna Moth to hang in your sunniest window for display!

Perfect for:
