Mosaic Monday Picture Frame
3-Week Class | February 9, 16 & 23
Create a one-of-a-kind mosaic glass picture frame while learning foundational and intermediate mosaic techniques in a relaxed, supportive studio environment. This class is designed for beginners as well as artists with some mosaic experience who want to refine their design and glass placement skills.
Over three consecutive weeks, students will design and build a decorative mosaic frame sized to hold an 8” x 10” photo. You’ll work with a variety of glass materials, including mosaic tiles, glass shards, and decorative accents, to create a frame that reflects your personal style.
Session Breakdown:
-
Week 1 (February 9 6pm-8pm):
Design planning, layout, and introduction to tools and materials. Begin cutting and placing glass. -
Week 2 (February 16 6pm-8pm):
Continue glass cutting and placement, refine details, and complete adhesion. -
Week 3 (February 23 6pm-8pm):
Grouting, cleanup, and finishing techniques to complete your frame.
All sessions are 2 hours each. Instruction includes design guidance, glass cutting techniques, proper adhesives, and professional grouting methods. Students will leave with a finished, display-ready mosaic picture frame.
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Finished Size: 12" x 14" (Holds an 8” x 10” photo)
Materials: All materials included
This class is perfect for anyone looking to explore mosaic art in depth while completing a functional, decorative piece over multiple sessions.
The following items are to be supplied by each Student
Goggles or eye protection. I always suggest wearing goggles during cutting/nipping and when using the grinder.. There is always a chance of flying glass! If you wear glasses on a regular basis, you won’t need goggles. If you don’t have any, I will have a few extra pairs to share.
Closed-toe shoes. Glass shards and bare feet don’t mix!
These items will be supplied by Cricket Mosaics and Three Rivers Art Glass (included in the class price):
Glass cutting tools. Nippers, grozing pliers, running pliers, hand files, and glass cutters are all available for your use during the class. A grinder is also available in the studio..
Stained glass. I have a large variety of broken pieces of glass, as well as some full sheets. If there is something you KNOW you will want, I may be able to get specific colors, etc.
Adhesives. Everyone will have their own!
Grout. There will be a light-colored neutral grout and a dark-colored neutral grout to choose from.
Grouting tools. Rags, sponges, all you’ll need!
Instruction and guidance. I will be there with you every step of the way!
